Choose from vibrant colors, seaside charm or patriotic influences when setting tables for summer dinner parties.

Summer is the season for entertaining thanks to longer days, warmer nights and better choices of in-season foods. It is also the perfect time to experiment with table settings. Taking inspiration from rich summer colors, beach vacations and Independence Day, these three looks fit in with any summertime celebration, large or small.

Each one starts with a blank canvas – a simple tabletop whether wood, metal or glass. They come together with basic entertaining pieces and fun accessories. Most items you probably already own, can easily make or find for cheap at local stores, which proves summer party table settings do not have to cost a lot to have major impact. Read on to decide which style is perfect for your summer get-together.

Colorful Summer Table Settings.

Like a beautiful sunset, this colorful summer table setting incorporates bright oranges, deep golds and brilliant pinks to make it stand out. A natural fiber cloth helps the color and pattern of the table simply pop.

  • Start with a linen or even burlap fabric as a tablecloth.
  • Cut orange, hot pink and yellow ribbon a little longer than the length of the table. Drape them across as a table runner.
  • Buy inexpensive melamine plates and glasses in the bright colors and playful patterns.
  • Group white candles (pillars, votives and tealights) for an illuminated centerpiece.
  • Hang paper lanterns about the table to light up the night.

Summer Table Setting At The Beach

When thinking of summer, the beach is often the first thought that comes to mind. Even if you live nowhere near the ocean, create a beachside atmosphere with these ideas for summer tables.

  • Start with blue beaded placements (the sparkle mimics the ocean) and basic whites china for each setting.
  • Layer blue or green glass plates on top. Find inexpensive styles at thrift stores, flea markets or on eBay.
  • Wrap flatware in white napkins, tie with ribbon and put in the center of each plate.
  • Place a shell, sand dollar or starfish on top of each napkin, and scatter a few around the table. If you don’t have a stash of shells from past vacations, find a place online that sells them in bulk.

Set A Patriotic Table

This table setting idea is all-American from the color scheme to the items used. The look is not over-the-top with stars and stripes, making it perfect for a Memorial Day lunch, Fourth of July barbecue or any summertime meal. Since many summer meals are casual affairs, it incorporates a buffet table setting.

  • Use a gingham tablecloth in red or blue as a starting point for this table.
  • Drape a red, white and blue garland along the front of the table.
  • Stack plain white plates and napkins at one end or corral them in a basket.
  • Create an easy flower arrangement using red blooms picked from the yard.
  • For patriotic celebrations, set small American flags down the table.

No matter how you entertain during the summer, one of these table settings is sure to help pull off the party in style.
